[sticky] Tech issues GSTF V2 Blog and the Forum

Posted 4 years ago #

Folks, thanks for for your patience over the last 24 hrs. Though we had a few bugs, all bugs have been identified, though not all have yet been fixed. I'll quickly run through each one below

"Forgetful Comments"
This is a software problem with Wordpress and I have emailed the owner to try and remove it from future version.

Fix: Delete your cookies. Please google to discover how incase you do not know

"Anonymous"
This plagued existing GSTF users who had a GSTF username & password but registered again in the Forum area

Fix: I have fixed this, but please do not register again if you have an existing username & password, simply login to Forum

"No Picture"
Picture does not show in Forum

Fix: problem has been identified and will be resolved soon

If there are any other bugs you come across, please don't hesitate to post them here in this thread

It's still taking the website a long time to load on my end, especially the first page. Is there anyway you can reduce the load time?

Important:

1. Please post all tech issues here, both now and in the future, rather than emailing them individually. This will allow us all users to benefit from the solutions provided; and will also allow everyone to contribute solutions.

2. Existing users of GSTF with a password for posting to the blog: do not register on forum again, it will create duplicate ids that will lead to a variety of issues throughout this site

Problem with speed has been identified: the image posted by Pilgrims is close to 1MB and is also very large. Jim suggest you re-size this.

All those uploading images, keep them under 200Kb

DONE!

Resized as requested! Kind of a reverse supersize...

Will we get more uploading power as time rolls by?

depends on the internet speed worldwide. I think around 150Kb a year should be ok.

We assume that net speed per say will get quicker, faster, stronger.....like the Bionic man, right - like nano tech & Cable optics?

Just added a clip to the BASF post....AWESOME.

ALL YOU NEED TO DO GANG is to copy the EMBED code from youtube and paste it into comments - tis as simple as that!!!!!

Hows about these profile pictures?\\We're fed from mybloglog at the moment, right? So only people on there will show up here at GO!...

Right?

yep at the moment it's connected to MyBlogLog.com because there are some bugs with the forums' own profile system. Am working on a fix, which might take anywhere from 1 week to a 6 weeks depending on complexity. Will let you all know here.

Ok cool - we've had a few emails in and we've re-directed people here! So those who aren't in mybloglog can't upload their photo here until it's been fixed, right?

Copied this over from a blog post comment

RYK, I’d have gladly posted my tech issue over at the forum, but the tech issue is I can’t sign in on forum! It says it doesn’t recognise my user name. I received a confirmation mail though with that user name and the p/w (which I hadn’t changed). SOS please.

Reply:

BJ, surely you can view the forum even without signing in? Or is that not happening as well?

3 days back I had deleted all the new profiles users had accidentally created, so that is no longer the cause of trouble. Could it be as simple as entering in the incorrect user name and password?

Once again: the username and password you created on the forum has been deleted so you will not be able to login with that. Use the username & password you use for writing blog entries.

Hey AC - it looks like only us admin flowers (i.e Jim & Em & RYK) can post youtube clips in comments or as posts at the moment....

RYK and the gang are in contact with the founder of Wordpress to find a solution!
Thanks for this feedback and watch this space....

I had thought for the forums...
Why not have the most recent comments on the posts first.. that way we can see the last thing said and go back if we need.. basically reverse the order.... Oh RYK will love that job.. I can see him tearing hishair out know.. sorry mate ... so much stress...
Sorry mate we love what you are doing and it all takes time... no worries at all... :)

hi team! firstly, great job RYK and the rest of the team :) I am used to the more spacious look and like it. The forum is a great idea also... good to get issues sorted like the techy ones :P

One thing I have found is that the loading speed is soooooo slow and I am on broadband!

... and another thing, is it possible to add a search feature so that we can look up posts or a sitemap even! As I mentioned, I have several posts bookmarked and now the links are all broken...

Ange, I'm finding the speed OK. Is anyone finding speed slow?

I think I have found a workaround for YouTube clips in comments, will try some experiments.

We are working on the fix for perma links.

Hi RYK - help please!

Re Feedburner, I have a couple of questions which I've posted as a blog on the 'home page' here. If you get a mo, could you have a look and offer any advice please.

Hi P13, will get to it ASAP.

Ange, I've fixed the speed issue (with help from Jim) and also restored the perma links. Let me know if it's all ok with you.
