Today I sent a suggestion to Jim regarding the permalink structure of the title posts here at GSTF and he suggested I mention it here in the forum for all of you who are not aware of this.

I work on a Wordpress platform so am very familiar with it and love it for it's plugins. On other platforms like blogger, I'm sure you can also do this by tweaking your CSS.

The plugin I'm referring to is http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/redirection/

The flower post titles (for example) are 4 digits. This plugin will do a 301 re-direct for all existing posts to a new permalink structure which will be changed to the actual title of the post like

domain/category/title/ which translates to gosmelltheflowers.com/travel/go-smell-the-travel-bug/

Making this change helps the search engines to find these articles as the current digits don't do anything for SEO.

While on this subject of SEO, do you founders realise that the "All-in-one-SEO" nested below where you write your posts allows you to optimise your post so that organic searches can find them?

Think I see where you mean - the 3 digit title e.g: topic.php?id=106 - yes?

My blogger posts - when you mouseover the title or copy the URl from your url bar on your browser, always reads the title of the post so do i still need a plugin?/ css amending (I wouldn;t know where to start to be honest. If there isn't a step by step with diagrams and examples of what code i'm looking for to replace or insert beside, then i just dont go there!).
SEO nesting below posts - is this the last blog post link????

I have enabled permalinks for the forums and will change the permalinks for the blog after checking out the redirect plugin.

I have also enabled support for Gravatars.. (http://www.gravatar.com/)

@creativeblogger I had a look at your site and your single pages read the page number rather than the title ie: http://www.creative-blogger.com/page8.htm rather than http://www.creative-blogger.com/blog-creation-service.htm

I'm not sure of the platform you are using however, you must be able to change the page number to the page title in your html. That's of course if you want to and it does help those little spiders scouring the web to notice.

@Jonathan I should have checked the blogger posts... they actually automagically come up with the post title. The wordpress one you are spot on. The redirect plugin is for established blogs who already have pages bookmarked to the likes of stumble, digg, del.icio.us etc... and if there is no re-direct and someone browsing clicks on the old bookmarked url before the change over to post title, they will be sent to a 404 error page. It's also worth it for blogs/sites that already have a pagerank as if these older posts are not found, the pagerank will drop off :(

Once Deep has looked into it more closely, he may be able to answer questions too. I have a techy guy I work with and he helps me out. I'm really not that great at the tech stuff although I do learn things along the way.

@Deep, I did notice the url for the forums :) I like!! let's see what the others think. In my humble opinion, I think it will make it easier to find posts and when sharing links, the post title says more than numbers do. Thanks for taking it on board and thanks to Jim also :)
