1) Traffic
This is how I knew I was number 4, though not sure I still am as these figs fluctuate. I had a visitor who showed up on my incoming traffic widget. It shows me the link they used to find me. Very useful tool if you want to figure out which of your traffic pulling methods are working most for you. I can see my top referrers. So I know where to concentrate my time and efforts and which to drop.
2) I am not familiar with e-Lance, but my objective is two fold.
Writing is my passion yet there are many more brilliant writers out there than me who are too shy or don't know how to raise their profile. I have raised mine to the point I am read around the globe perhaps 2000 times weekly. I
had a book offer two days ago which I declined as I could not fulfill the terms of the contract but it was a traditional publisher not self publish and one thing that helped obtain that offer was the exposure I have around the web and the hope I'd do a lot of my own marketing. Anyway, I genuinely want to help these writers looking for more exposure or jobs to be seen.
What's in it for me?
The other aspect is of course that while I put in massive efforts to generate lots of traffic to raise their awareness is that I hope I will get a few ad clicks/sales for writing related products along the way. These will hopefully at some point cover the time I spend on promoting the site though of course that is a very long way off and I'm not sure it's even possible but I enjoy it so...
I also get to know the authors via email and what not and how great is that! So far both authors I have published are published book authors, though beginners and novices looking for small/big writing jobs are very welcome.
I enjoy it basically and if I get some ads and sales along the way fab.
There are other sites out there that allow profiles but they either charge a fee to client or writer or both and all seem to require a registration. The sites also generate income via ads/sales and what not.
The difference with my site is there is no fee, no sign up and when I get around to it links (today hopefully) on two sites.
I would leap at any chance like this myself as this is how you raise your profile on the web.
