Deja Vu -- What is it?

Posted 4 years ago #

Empress Nightshade had an unusual event recently regarding one of my comments, she could have sworn she read the same thing by me, somewhere at some time. She described it as a kind of "deja vu" episode.
Putting plagarism aside, as well as redundant posting (neither of those were the case in this instance) it made me wonder what deja vu is.
It happens often with me. I'll be having a conversation with someone, driving somewhere, vacuuming my family room -- and WHAM! -- I'm sure I've done this before, exactly as it was playing out.
Then I wonder, "Did I dream this?"
Was it so close in comparison to another situation that it feels as though I've done it before?

Anyone have any ideas? Clues? Suggestions?

Hmmm - this thread looks familiar!

Kidding. Heres what wikip say...

he term was coined by a French psychic researcher, Émile Boirac (1851–1917) in his book L'Avenir des sciences psychiques (The Future of Psychic Sciences), which expanded upon an essay he wrote while an undergraduate. The experience of déjà vu is usually accompanied by a compelling sense of familiarity, and also a sense of "eeriness", "strangeness", or "weirdness". The "previous" experience is most frequently attributed to a dream, although in some cases there is a firm sense that the experience "genuinely happened" in the past.

The experience of déjà vu seems to be very common; in formal studies 70% of people report having experienced it at least once. References to the experience of déjà vu are also found in literature of the past, indicating it is not a new phenomenon. It has been extremely difficult to invoke the déjà vu experience in laboratory settings, therefore making it a subject of few empirical studies. Recently, researchers have found ways to recreate this sensation using hypnosis.....

**We do have Deja-vu moments from time to time and it gets exciting when you predict what the other will say next.....this is the first Deja vu comment experience we've seen at flowers with you n Empress...

Interesting (Evil laugh)

Rufus,

thanks for putting this up here. I didn't know you experienced Deja Vu episodes, as well. :)

I heard somewhere that they are a byproduct of a past life. So, in other words, you HAVE been there before or in a very similar situation.

Oh, and J & E, I love your Evil Laugh. Allow me to introduce you to mine: MWAAAAHAAAAHAAAA! ;)

cool topic...

In some scientific fields it has lead to the beleif in string theory that it when two parrelle dimensions touch meet or even overlap and the us in that dimension and the us in this experience the same event with in a fewmoments of each other giving us the deja vu sensation.... Or it could just be one of those weird things we will never understand...

I get all the time.... the most memoriable was driving, I had done everything to not do this trip, just new it was not good, couldnt put my finger on why I was so concerned as I had driven this road countless times....
was about 3/4 throughthe trip when I was hit by another car travelling at 120km, she hit me side on into my van...
the funniest thing was just as I saw the crest she came over I yelled oh no bloody hell and over she came... couldnt do a thing.....
hmm spooky.... neither of us was hurt badly, which they said was a miracle.... both cars where right offs...

Aussie, that happened to me! Not the car wreck, but with flat tires.
I was in college, driving to work, and I had a "feeling" that I was going to have not one, but two flat tires.
Weather was fine.
Road was fine.
Car was fine.
Tires, not too fine. But I didn't know ..
Just, a "feeling" that I'd done this before, at that moment -- so I slowed down, and within seconds, "WHAM!"
It was eerie. For sure.
I often wonder what would have happened if I hadn't slowed down considerably. Could have been bad. Dunno.

I've avoided many an accident because I just "knew" something was going to happen. Is it women's intuition or is it something else? Tune in tomorrow as we present another interesting reply on "Go! Detect Your Powers..."

G'Day there Empress and Rufus....

Womans intuition is being scientifcically tested and proven.... itsa funny but we sometimes just know...

The tyres Rufus gave me a chill....
But it shows just need to listen to that inner voice sometimes...

That's not Deja Vu though. It's more of a premonition or sense of foreboding.

I've read that Deja Vu is a sign, from a higher power, God, whatnot, that you are on the right track and doing exactly what you need to do in life.

I hadnt heard that definition... it would explain.. a lot though.....

I thought it was all one and the same .. parts of the same thing/process....
I like your definition better though funky... it answers a few things...

If it's a sign that you're on the right track, that would explain why I haven't had many in a while. The first would be when I read Rufus' reply.....*gasp* Does that mean being here at Flowers is on the right track for me??

Interesting subject...love all the comments as well! As for me I experience de ja vu quite a bit, for me I have come to learn that my experience of it is usually an indicator that i am on the right path moving towards what i desire....I find it to be a subtle reminder from my inner self that there is more to be revealed in regards to the everyday details of life.

I had so many of these "Deja Vu" moments while returning to Ohio -- that if Funky Girl is correct -- I'm kicking butt on the "right track" theme.

changes do happen. I know they are the trace of time , adidas f50 adizero, irresistible and inevitable. the moment I saw my father I should not recognize him.I know he is getting old ,but returning home after more than 4moths,the symptoms of old should have grown beyond my imagination. I felt guilt and regret. I know I am the killer who take away his strength and youth.apparently he was pleased that I arrived so early and brought presents for them. when I was young I always thought he was some kind of tyrant , stern and severe.Nike Mercurial Vapor, I thought he was not approachable and touching.while with years passing by, in the process of my growing up and his getting old , these impression fades and instead it is replaced by words as gentle caring and loving . he played cheese and badminton with me, he would sing with me , he cooked for me , he chat with me , he is tolerant of me.my dear father and all my families , I say sorry for my past fault , I know sometimes I just easily surrender myself to the various temptation, and lose myself and my way. but believe me , I just easily surrender myself to the various temptation, and lose myself and my way. football boots, but believe me ,my experience is added over time and I can preserve my values and trace my path to maturity
