Actually this is how spam engine works (according to my understanding)

- When someone posts the comment, the IP of the comment poster goes to Spam engine
- Spam engine checks the IP in the database of black list as well as global database of black list (XBL / RBL etc..)
- If the IP is found in any of these databases, the comment will be flagged as Spam
- Apart from IP check, it also checks for things like, certain words in the comments (spammy words), no. of links in the comments etc..

So if your comment meets any of these criteria, it will be flagged as spam. All we can do is, keep on unspamming the comment and spam engine will learn from it automatically.

At this point of time I do not see any feature / option called Whitelist in wordpress.

Just a query for you Deep

you are using the same Spam Guard controls as I am and most blogs which I comment on...
The only place I end up in Spam is here..... so therefore I am not on any spam Blacklist THANKYOU very much...
The problem does appear to be your end... and I would appreciate this sorted asap... if it is my end then and to do with my IP why can I post every where else I choose....

I have just attempted to post a comment through proxy.... it DID NOT allow the comment.
My IP address is not the problem....
Nothing I am attempting to post in the comment contains any profanity, or language deemed unsuitable or spam....
OBVIOUSLY The problem is not from what I am or saying nor is it from my IP....
Your cooperation in this matter would be appreciated...

We are using Akismet as spam filtering engine. I just did quick search on your Australian IP address, it looks to be pretty much clean but I can see it under PBL list of Spamhaus.org. PBL is not any black list or something (it is kind of clean list of IPs) but It possible that due to some bug or something, Akismet is considering IPs listed under PBL as blacklisted. (I will have to check with Akismet guys for this)

Ok, now your 2nd IP address, US one.. it is currently listed in spam list of Outblaze. Just do a lookup here and you should be able to find the evidence of spam too.

So in short, the problem seems to be with the IP address only. If you need more clarifications over this, you can get in touch with guys over at Akismet

I hope this helps to clear your doubts.

Thank you for clearing the name of my normal IP...
to have anyone think I was on such a list is just rather bad and if rumour even got round
so thank you...
Not surprising the second IP was a public proxy....
But it appears we may have found the problem....
Hubby and I have searched also because we also Akismet as well as a few others...... and it is the comment luv... I bet your wordpress is set to catch any more than one link into spam or moderation..
It appears if I have Comment Luv enabled it gives me two links the first link is my blog and the second link is the comment luv if I disable comment luv then all appears to work fine..... but we will see....

It appears that the comment luv idea was although a possiblity, now looking not likely, the curious thing is some comments are being allowed while others are not, its not a black list problem, if that was the case then every blog that I comment on and there are quite a few, would be giving me the same results.....

The PBL list is simply a service provider thing whereas all dynamic ip addresses are forced to have there outgoing email authenticated via smpt, every service provider should be using this service..

Jim / Em - I personally don't see it as server issue but I think it might be number of links in the comment. Let's see how it goes now.

If I leave off my website, in the info for comments, works fine.....
If I put my web address in there with comment luv I go to spam
I tried leaving my website address and diable comment luv and still spam i go..
so I can leave comments if I leave my website address off... that seems to be causing a conflict some where...

Great find.. so the logic of Akismet can be like this:

If there are more links, first find what is the anchor text, if it's too long, something is wrong with the comment as long achor text url might be a sign of spammy links (keyword stuffed)

I think we should try disabling comment luv and then you can start putting in your site address, I am sure it should work.

I will wait for confirmation from Jim / Em about this.

We can try it if you like... however I did disable it in the comments when I posted and put my web address in and it still spammed me...
perhaps it is the plugin mucking up... but it appears to be only me.. so I dont know... what do you think..
