The Flowers smell sweeter here.

Posted on May 3rd, 2009 by Angela in Canada

Hi everyone.

I am brand new to GSTF and wanted to introduce myself with my first post here. I am excited to be a part of this community and look forward to meeting lots of new friends and fellow bloggers around the world. I host a blog called  ‘once a fortnight’ in case you were interested.

I got thinking about the name of this group – Go Smell the Flowers. Living here in southern Manitoba, Canada, and I honestly think the flowers smell sweeter here than anywhere else in the world, just because we wait so long through our cold, snowy winters to get a whiff.

angela_in_canadaWhen I first came to this country winter was a bit of a shock, and at first I could not understand why everyone asks “How was your winter” in the spring. But now I understand.

We live two different lives in Manitoba; our winter ones and our summer ones. They involve different activities and sometimes even different groups of friends: like the rink friends and the lake friends.

No wonder we take all the time we can during our glorious summers to smell the flowers. I’m looking forward to sharing my thoughts with you all flower people and wondered if any of you have ever visited Canada?

Let me know, Thanks Angela!

The introduction seems to be lacking something – a ‘Glam’ photo. Does the winter group of friends participate in indoor ‘sports swapping’?

Nice to have someone new here…

    Welcome to the community Angela,

Be sure to be armed with your sense of humour / humor here as we’ve a diverse bunch of flowers chipping in here on a regualr basis.

I enjoyed reading your completed profile questions and first question -what are you aspirations for this community and for your own blog?

    Do tell!

    • Angela says:

I have no aspirations beyond being part of a community of writers that care about what they are actually saying. It’s been a lonely road so far, but getting cosier all the time!

Hi Angela, how’s it going ay.
    See I can speak Canadian.
When is Manitoba, is it after November?
I visited Canada in 1999 and visited Toronto and Missasauga. I’ve got a few Canadian friends as well, if you’re like them and have a good sense of humour then you should survive the normal baptism here.
    Welcome on board.

Hi Angela, welcome to GSTF. Where are you from originally? And what is the biggest difference between where you are from and where you are now.

I’ve been to Calgary but didn’t think much of it, very industrial and cold! Twas ages ago though.

    • I am originally from Oxfordshire in the UK.
The biggest difference is obviously the weather. After that – the humour – have to watch the sarcasm here!
      Thanks for the welcome.
