As featured in the film Slumdog millionaire and my fave song at the moment:
I’ve added it to the GSTF jukebox in forums and feel free to do the same with yours either here in comments (just add a v after http) or by pasting the link directly in the jukebox section at forums.
Share your favourite tune at the moment – cheers.

Prob’y ‘An Open Letter to NYC’ by the Beastie Boys – ace track, a true paen to the Beasties’ home town.
Or ‘Witness the Fitness (1 hope)’ by Roots Manuva – filthy bass-line that’s been sampled to death
Or ‘Sim simmer’ by Beanie Man – again, ridiculous bass-line
Or ‘Get By’ by Talib Kweli – utter kweli-ty
Cheers O’Db…
feel free to add them to the GSTF jukebox…
1 more track and your 5 for 1 pound.
Cheers Odb…

**Applause**
Esther Phillips during her time with Kudu.
Great soulful blues in the main with a few very good 70′s cheese/pornesque numbers thrown in.
This version of Gil Scott Heron’s mournful ode to Heroin is a classic

Some great 70′s cheese.

Here’s GS heron, another new one on me Gareth:
httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RvdnMzQGbEQ
That’s Esther Phillips singing GS Heron. GS Heron had a similar style but was subtley different – he was a man for starters.
Also check out anything by Jamie Lidell.
He’s turning out some really good retro funk. “You got me up” is fantastic. A few are little downbeat for my tastes but he is talented.
Not heard of Jamie Lidell before Gareth but love his stuff already here’s that track in a surreal video I found:
To get the youtube clip to appear here in comments at the main blog just add a v after http so the link is hhtpv://
httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O0h0pvjVSzo
I know I’ve seen the tip many times, I just don’t see the point.
The point is people rarely click on another link to watch a clip – online blogs have a 5-7 second window to hold attention so people are more likely to click and play on a screen shot than move away to another site, wait for it to load, click and then often never go back….
It works….
On that note I dedicate this one for you courtesy of Turtle Jim, remember:
httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rhkOPNRV8Pk
Love it. Melle Mel rocking the urban safari look.
I’ve witnessed Jim’s breaking skills: 15 years past their prime, but still busting & breaking (everyone’s pint glasses in a New Year’s Eve crowded bar in NYC, when Jim’s windmilling feet managed to knock them from the punters’ hands).
Good tune and I remember wearing a hole into 2sqm of lino back in the 80′s, pity they bothered with that Ramon lip sinc at the start. Would have been better to let Melle Mel do the whole number.
I also seem to remember at the same time Melle Mel turning up in London and when asked about what his fur coat was made of he ignited much controversy by replying ‘Alsation’.
I still have a number of Melle Mel original vinyl reconrds from way back when…..as well as some great Afrika Bamabatta and the soul sonic force numbers. Just for you Jim, my favourite Afrika Bambatta number of those days.

Nice finish with Kraftwerk’s ‘Tour de France’
Manchester International Festival have just announced their line up for this summer’s 2009 festival & they’ve got Kraftwerk playing. At the Manchester Velodrome – which considering Kraftwerk’s obsession with cycling should be amazing. Got tickets already. & for De La Soul. & Elbow. & Lou Reed & wife Laurie Anderson. Should be ace – 2007′s was ace, 2009′s looks to shaping up to be pretty damn good.
If any of you can make it to the NW of England between July 2-19th suggest you get tickets soon as:
Check out the line up here:

De la soul…worth heading over for! Lou Reed also a big hitter……
(((Jealous)))
Cost of tickets? And is in an Art gig or a pop gig or both, buddy?

The musicians will largely be doing gigs, but sometimes with a little twist.
So Kraftwerk play a set in the velodrome.
Lou Reed & Laurie Anderson, though married, have very different styles, so appearing together will probably work to each other’s strengths (singer-song writing, spoken word, etc.).
Guy Garvey & Elbow will be appearing with the ‘original Manchester band’ the Halle Orchestra.
De La Soul will perform a 20th anniversary set of their seminal ’3 feet & rising’ album (1989 – , feeling old). Happy Mondays did something similar at the 2007 Festival.
That’s just some of the musicians; there’s loads of fantastic theatre, dance & contemporary arts, too. If you or others are in the UK over this summer well worth a trip to Manchester.
Looks a great gig….will try and get over!
Seems my last one did not get posted hmmm. If it gets found it has way more links than this one but I suspect it was the number of links that meant it didn’t make it.
So while we’re about it,
Captain Rock, capacapacapacapacapacapacapacapa Captain Rock, rock to the future shock people

Oh yeaaaaaa.
Now you’re talking.
Just need UC to post some Royce Da’ 5’9 & we’re back to ’87 heaven.
Oh yes, who is in the HOUSE?

OOOhhh dear. DJ goes for broke & drops an absolute kipper.
Floor clears & plenty of disgruntled looks go toward the DJ box. Gonna take something huge to get the crowd back on side.
LOL – thought that might get a reaction with a 1 hit wonder…
Get back in the room:

hopefully DJ rues his mistake, rapidly spin-stops Beatmaters & Merlin & quickly regains some face with dropping a stone cold classic from NWA. If he follows with 93 to Infinity by Souls of Mischief (remember that alcoholic haze of an afternoon in NYC) may just be redeemable.
Redeem with this I will*
