Arvind here having just seen the footage of an Iraqi journalist throwing his shoes at President Bush as a news conference.
I have just learnt that around the Arab world, one of the most insulting thing you can do is to show someone the soles of your feet. So throwing your shoes is even worse.
Since yesterday, there has been quite a furore over this shoe-throwing incident.
What are your thoughts about this?

Apparently calling someone a dog, which is what the man did while throwing his shoes, is also a deep insult.
When I was living in France a friend taught me a few insults. One I remember especially:
Si j’avais un trou de cul comme ta gueule, j’aurais honte d’aller chier.
(If I had an a**hole like your face, I’d be ashamed to take a dump.)

In India there are many insults, besides the juvenile ones:
1. Ignoring someone, or not going to their house/office
2. Not inviting someone to your son/daughters wedding can be a major insult
Amazed that the guy throwing the shoe actually missed such an open target!
Insults vary from culture to culture but throwing anything t anyone is an insult unless of course it’s flowers which, hey is all the more acceptable

The thing I find funny about the whole show throwing thing is the balding guy who got up from the front row to grab the guy…

We Aussies have so many ways to insult a person, I should write a book on each of them.
Example.. there is mate, Maate, Maaatte, MATE, MAAATTTTTE…
My fav insult saying is
May the flees of a thousands camels infest your armpits!

Someone asked where abouts in Liverpool I was from once.
As a rule I don’t tend to get insulted, I’m not sure whether thats a reflection on me or the company I keep.
