Go! Smell The Pop

Posted on December 4th, 2008 by taylorblue

The other day I was with the kids at the grocery store. We were walking down the aisles and I know I was just looking for something to buy. I had already blown my budget for the day so why not just make it worse? I saw the VitaminWater (which is new here in Canada, but really popular in the United States) … and then I saw it. The Pop Shoppe pop

It hasn’t been around for a long time. When I was a kid in a really small town in Ontario (Literally there was only 7000 people there.)  we had this store the Pop Shoppe. Now most of my childhood has been blocked from about the age of 3 up until about 13. But I can remember this place. It was a store that just had bottles of pop in it. You would bring your plastic containers and fill them up with the bottles. When you went back you would bring back the empty bottles and get a credit to spend in the store. I always liked to pick out my favorites.

I loved the lime flavour. And when I drank it I remembered. My daughter tried root beer and if I remember correctly, she said it tasted like sh*t. I laughed and told her that it wasn’t like the root beer they have around now.

It’s important to point out that I love pop. I can’t go a day without one…okay three. I know that I have to cut down and sometimes I do and drink just water but when I go back to the pop I can’t stop. I like to think it helps me with stress. And there is nothing like a cold Coke on a hot day. But it has to be fountain pop. (The kind you get at McDonald’s with your meal.) I know I am bad…but I’m not perfect and this is my vice.

What are you addicted to that you can’t go a day without eating?

No foods really I cant live without, in fact food is something I can take it or leave it….
there are foods which I do love, Garlic prawns, seafood, good cheese, good chocolate etc….

Dont drink soft drink (fizzy drink) might have a mouth full from time to time but thats it,
Mineral water and fruit juice is much nicer… try it.. its great..

Oh I sound boring don’t I… Im not really truly promise… now wheres the nearest seafood bar…

  2. Oh, the thing that I cannot go without each day is bottled water (I only like the taste of certain brands) and black coffee or a latte!! The coffee is a big deal. For that matter, so is the water. But, I get grumpy without coffee…it is comforting for me. My therapist even suggested it to calm me down for the aroma and my psychiatrist suggested a cup or two in the morning to help get me out of medication fog. C-O-F-F-E-E makes me H-A-P-P-Y!!!

    Addicted to?

Well I love bananas – does that make me a monkey?

A cup of tea is about it on a daily basis…..aside from eating / smelling the flowers!

Ummm, confession: another monkey here. LOVE me some bananas! :D

I can’t go a day without fresh green juice. It’s how I start my day, every day. Today was kale, cucumber, celery, apple, ginger root.

    • Jim,

Are you saying that I’m addicted to coffee…I have know idea what you are talking about? :-) I’ve been drinking it since I was 15. Diet coke or Mountain Dew used to be part of my liquid intake…more caffeine. Now, I stop drinking caffeinated coffee about 12-1pm and switch to water only and 8 oz of juice.

Here in western NY, people call “soda pop” products POP. But in some other areas of the US, people call it SODA. It turns out to be a battle of words sometimes. People will get really mad sometimes.

      Hey Zack,

Being from Pa., I know exactly what you mean. I’m in the South now and have to say soda, or get no response.

I enjoy an occasional coca cola (with rum)…maybe more in the summer. Usually pop gives me the hiccups, or is it the rum???

I’m glad someone understands what I mean!
