Go see if Destiny’s Calling

Posted on December 5th, 2008 by A/C

I don’t tend to get caught up in Television Programs, well not much anyways, I have a few which I watch, Bones, Heroes, Ghost Whisper Doctor Who, The Bill and who can miss Top Gear, but after a while it’s the same old same old with so many, excluding Dr Who and Top Gear (Clarkson favourite son of Lorry Drivers everywhere).  You know what I mean, they keep making them, mostly because we still watch even though the story has gotten rather tired, and they should have been retired last season.

Well a new Program hit my TV screen last night Eli Stone. I had seen the Ads for it, it looked like my kind of show, so I watched and although this is not a review, I must say, I was impressed.
One part of the Pilot Episode really got me, although the whole program I found rather inspirational in my sideways view of the world,  this just grabbed me.

Watch this short clip, towards the end is the part, my favourite slice.

“You might not believe in some guy turning water into wine, but that doesn’t mean you don’t believe in God. You believe in right and wrong. You believe in justice, in fairness… You believe in love. All those things, they’re God, Eli.”

‘Some People have a greater calling in Life! You just have to know it when you hear it.’

Some of us never know what we could be or even what we want to be.  Life takes hold and drags us along, before we know it we reach the point we think is that of no return. A safe comfort zone, which we niether love nor hate, we have grown to fit it or it to fit us, either way it is home and we know it well.

Others it seems are drawn to something, to reach out to some invisible thread on lifes conveyor belt, they take hold and their lives take on a whole new meaning for better or worse they are drawn to it, an adventure.

Destiny, Fate, or Wishful Thinking, which ever it is the results are all around us.
Just when we think we know what we want, what we need, where our lives are heading, just when we have it all planned out, life decided it has other plans for us.

Would you know destiny, your true calling if you saw it, if jumped up and bit you?

Would grab a hold with both hands and hold for the ride of your life?

Or would you turn away continue on your chosen path?

The choice is always ours, which would you choose?

My life plans are to become a published author and to be able to lie in to 9.30 in the morning.

Life though has other ideas. Namely to erect brick walls around me so that I can run at them and hurt myself. Ouch!

I think I’m going to downgrade my life plans to see if the Universe will play fair with me. They now to lie in to 8.30 in the morning and to watch every episode ever made of TopGear.

Mike a noble ideal every episode of Top Gear…

Even the pre Clarkson, May, Hammond years… they are interesting but not as much fun as these guys… lol…

Oh to stay in bed till 8.30 am on a school day.. oh happy days….

  2. For me it has always been I aim for a goal and think I’m going in the right direction, which I am for that moment in time, then, I believe, that God intervenes in some really obvious way that makes me change directions. But, that isn’t without a fight. I always have to argue first or go through some turmoil before I take the other road even though I know I’m going to take that road. It is just how I process. I know it is from God, if I have that feeling. I take that road or road of different opportunities like GSTF…who would have thought that I’d be writing two blogs and guest writing here? WOW!!

      Hey CC

I reckon just cut out the middle man and go for it…
who would have thought you would be where you are now, infact in off us… I know I didnt… but there is much more to come… I too have the feeling…

    I saw my destiny once.

At a Billy Joel concert in 1989, my destiny walked right by me.

    Christie Brinkley.

All I could do was scream, “CHRISTIE!!! CHRISTIE!!!” as she sauntered past me. Scared the shit right out of her.

She was married to Billy Joel at the time. And, I was on a date.

    Of course, she’s divorced now.

    Maybe I’ll call her.

Thanks for reminding me of this. I’ll let you know how it goes.

Following our destiny has to be the way forward even if it takes us off the beaten path…..the smeller flowing year of travel did that at the time and memories remain having done exactly that….

Water into wine you say – a glass of red would be wonderful puh-lease.

By the way saw George Michael live in Abu Dhabi with GSTF’s very own AngryfromEllesmereport…

  6. Gareth in Thailand says:

Surely by definition you are always following your destiny. If you change course then it was always going to tbe the case you would do that, if you don’t then the same applies.

    • A/C says:

This maybe the case.. but would you know…
Reminds me a bit of a scene in the Matrix 3… when Keanu knocks over the vase after the oricle tells him not to worry…
she says something along the lines of, ‘now what will bug you is did that happen because of what I said, or dispite it’…. cause and effect…..
      but would you know…..

      • Gareth in Thailand says:

If you follow the destiny argument to its logical conclusion then you are always following your destiny, you can not change it.
If you make a change then surely that was your destiny. By virtue of only having/knowing this existence then you can only have one route through life – hence you are alsways following your destiny. If you could go back in time and have some of your time again then sure, you can change but thats not so likely to happen.

Is the choice always ours though?

According to Einstein, its all mapped out already and we are travelling towards our future that has already happened.

    • According to Christianity, God knows our future and our future choices, but does not dictate it. He just has the knowledge of what we are going to do, but does not intervene. Time is also radically different there is no past or future, it is just the present.

      • Grrr! I stated that incorrectly. There is no past, present or future. Everything just is at the same time. Basically, there is no time so to speak. This is in heaven, not now.

        • Lib says:

Sorry CC, I can’t agree with your point of view (isn’t it funny how everyone has such different opinions/thought processes yet we are all fundamentally the same?)

I’m kind of with science on this one, at the moment anyway, its easier for me to believe that the future is all mapped out.

        • Real Talk says:

great so god knows when paedophiles will pounce and does nothing about it? he knew the indian terrorist attacks were coming and did nothing.

          what a lovely bloke

        • AngryfromEllesmerePort says:

No past, present or future? It appears i’m wrong – God does exist – only he’s the Chief of the Piraha in the Rainforest

        • A/C says:

I was thinking the same thing AEP

I seriously dont think God has got time to bother with individuals….

Can you imagine getting 6 billion a day all requesting something different, all these horrible things being told to you, People saying I am going to do this that or the other..

        • It isn’t that God doesn’t care, he cares enough to give us free will. a choice; therefore, we are not like his puppets. The Bible even says that in the world you will have trials and tribulations, but be of good courage for I have overcome the world. Meaning that ultimately, he (with the no sense of time) has already gained power over Satan. From our view point, it hasn’t happened yet and there is still a spiritual battle and we all make choices. Eve and Adam had a choice to eat the apple.

God cares and loves all of us and for those of us who have experienced abuse or other horrible trauma, He is there to comfort, heal and provide. But, you have to look to Him. I have seen and experienced that in my own life. God loves people individually and listens to each individually. Just because you don’t get what you requested does not mean that he has not answered you. It just may mean “no,” or in a different way. Also, with adversity comes growing of character and a choice of drawing near to God or pushing Him away. Without adversity, who would really go to Him? Biblically, the Earth will eventually be destroyed and society will become worse which is happening now.

Things are sort of preplanned, mapped out, as you put it, it is just that God knows the choices we will make. So, I’m not sure we really differ on it being mapped out.

        • I forgot to include this. Bottom line for me is that I can explain Biblically what the reasons are for the things that happen, but feeling wise I will never understand, because I am not God, why he does let horrendous things happen. However, I also believe that He loves every individual and cares. Do I understand why He allowed my abuse to happen and for me to require so much treatment? No, not on a feeling level, but I do know that He was there comforting me and does so now. I have always felt a sense of God’s presence from a very young age and maybe it is because I needed it so desperately. He is there for me now and I know that those that abused me made horrible, life altering choices.
