Having read a couple of the Bond related posts on GSTF I was inspired to go and check out some Bond scenery. It took the form of Kayaking around a number of islands off the coast of Phucket, all around Phang Nga Bay here in Thailand.
Here you will find ‘James Bond’ island. This was featured in the film ‘The man with the Golden Gun’ and is a really great site with photographic opportunities every where you turn.
I have to admit that whilst everyone else was happy photographing it I was the one who had to swim out to it to really make sure that Mr Scaramanga wasn’t lurking around the back somewhere with his little henchman ‘Nik Nak’.
I also checked for a villain with a white cat.
After taking a boat from Phucket out to the islands we then decanted into Kayaks.
We then paddled around for the entire day taking in island after island. As well as being great exercise its also a good, relaxed way to spot the wildlife in the area. At any point we felt like we’d put on the snorkeling gear and watch the fish swimming in and out of the coral and plant life and were also treated to Dolphins tearing around and about for half and hour or so.
Have you ever been Kayaking?
Do share any tales you might have.

love the pics GT and it’s got my brain all greedy to visit much beloved Thailand. And Kayaking it shall be !
See GIT, that’s why you are our ‘leader’, snigger snigger snigger……
Who else would we expect to swim out to James Bond Island (whilst everyone else was content with merely phptographing it) but our very own GIT!!
I shall sleep safely in my bed tonight knowing my good friend is taking care of us!
Snigger snigger arf arf snigger snigger!
YAWN fertile.
YAWN -this is a great post and exactly where flowers will be headed.
@ Gareth – Thanks for taking the time to post this one, brilliant stuff but one question – wasn’t bond filmed at Krabi?
Tired Jim?
Oh dear…….. bless……
This is where Flowers will be headed? Good. Be assured wherever the Big Fella goes I will happily follow!
Snigger snigger snigger
Not tired FF just in appreciation of a great flower smelling article….
Hi RYK,
Maybe treat yourself after the current 16+ hour a day stint is over?
Jim mentioned Krabi, this is a goodd place to visit as well as Koh Lanta.
Gday there GIT
Great pics.. they are just beaut….
I havent been Kayaking, but do a bit of adverturing on dry land though…rainforests, canyons, rivers, we do have a kayak which hubby hopes to try out this summer, and go through a huge river system from two towns away all the way home.. should be fun for him…
Hey AC, I heard there’s white water action in Tazzie, come on let’s have an all action AC report!
Actually its not that far from my place either…
We have the White Water, the Franklin Gordan including rapids, the gorges, and then there is Hells Gates… all within one hours drive…
Over summer (so just after Christmas) we are planning a Trip so stay tuned..
I actually dont mind White Water rafting… the water moves to fast for anything to jump up and bite.. hehehheh
Perhaps a little video action in the mix…
Gareth,
What a blessing it is to have access to such beautiful scenery, fresh air and exercise. I love kayaking, and sailing both, and do as much as I can.
Sounds like you had a great day.
Cheers,I do to count my blessing on this assignment compared to one or two I had in the early days – Thailand beats Dagenham & Halewood hands down!
I honestly don’t know how you do it Gareth.
Week after week you go to these God awful places but still manage to report back.
I’ve never been involved in a film set, although I live next to Coronation street and the streets of Manchester have often been featured Police! Camera! Action!
And I’ve been to the beach where Home and Away is filmed.
And I’ve just remembered Hollyoaks being filmed in Chester.
Oh yeah! And I saw the Matrix being filmed in Sydney.
And the one I filmed in my fla….ahem.
Thanks for this and I’ve definitely added it to my ‘list’.
Lol on the Police, camera, action.
Where I used to live for a year or two, in Wells, was used in the film Hot Fuzz but I only realised half way through.
Hey aren’t you forgetting your school was the setting for a documentary on the effects of diet & vitamins on academic achievement?
Where I grew up in New Mexico the have this place called White Sands National Monument. Many movies and commercials have been filmed there. I was once there when Exxon was filming a commerical. They were using a Tiger. I new the way I went up the sand dunes and I saw the way the tiger went up the sand dune. Needless to say I’m glad we don’t have wild Tigers out at White Sands!
Here is their official website http://www.white-sands-new-mexico.com if you want to see more about White Sands. This area is also the furthest south you can snow ski in America. Sun bath or Snow Ski in the same day! Can’t get any better than that.
Cool so go snow boarding in the morning & kite boarding in the afternoon – what a result.
Here in Dubai we can do that but in the indoor ski dome which is 15 minutes from the beach, not the same as not natural but a great contrast nonetheless…
Ace photos Gareth – we should work together on Media – can you go and have a look around the new Star Trek filming locatons for us – Jim will stump you the cost of an EVA suit
GIT
Just booked the flights to Thailand for the end of Jan 2009 – Mr Wheat-grass will be accompanying the Angry-Meister and two others on a golfing adventure. Looking forward to smelling a few Lotus Flowers
Interesting article, was wondering if you would allow me to link to it in a post i am currently creating for my own website? Thanks the arches
