GO! Smell Mumbai revisited

Posted on September 18th, 2008 by Jim

Hi from Mumbai where I’ve just pitched up for a few days of GSTF work with the Flora2000 team finalising the future plans to make this place an authority on inspiration, health, travel, food and media whilst becoming a thriving online community like no other. It’s 7 months since the last visit here – where did all that time GO?

Could you pin the tail on the map and accurately place Mumbai, without googling? Click here for the answer.

I revisited Leopold’s, tucked into one of my latest books, Maximum City by Suketu Mehta whilst washing down the finest carrot juice resisting the temptation to wade into a chimney of beer:

The rain has been really heavy as the monsoon season comes to and end here where scenes like this at nearby Chowpatty beach will soon return to brighten up the days of the estimated 16 million people who live in the city.

Have you resisted any temptation recently or caved in and folded like a cheap suit? Do tell.

  1. I folded and I resisted. I hate cupcakes, but there is this place called Sprinkles that makes the best cupcakes ever. You must eat the frosting with the cake. They use all top ingredients including $100/gallon vanilla. Throughout the year they have special flavors for one week. Now, even though I’m suppposed to be watching my weight and I have my physical tomorrow, I couldn’t resist the Key Lime special. So we purchase a dozen cupcakes which is cheaper. Well, I enjoyed a few over the next days, but then I made myself stop and froze the rest. Sigh. After my physical, I’m unfreezing one. If you want a look at these cupcakes, that are anything but ordinary check it out at www [dot] sprinklescupcakes [dot] com.

Oooh CC my mouth is watering!

I too folded, and I like to tell myself that it was more that I treated myself!

Whilst at the garage yesterday I bought myself some chocolate – the first for weeks. They were the the Choc bites (or something like that from Cadbury (or called something like that). They tasted wonderful but I still prefer Minstrels! Far more chocolate in each bite and when you are craving chocolate, that is all that matters! :)

      • I love chocolate. At work when I would be in a “bad mood,” I would have chocolate thrown at me on placed on my desk. There were some days when I said, “chocolate and coffee isn’t going to work.” Then, an announcement would go out, “Clueless, needs her space today!” I’ve become a bit snobby about my chocolate. I love Scharffen Berger dark chocolate. I never liked dark chocolate before until I started getting top quality. But, I still like the name brands. Did you look at the Sprinkles site?

I just finished a bar of chocolate and I wonder if the females tend to eat more (especially chocolate) during the *time of the month*?

I have been having chocolate bar with caramel, dark chocolate and any other types of chocolate delicacies I can get..Ferrero is great but I prefer Lindt.. Belgian is the finest but the price tag is way beyond what I can afford for chocolate..

          *yum yum on more chocolate*

        • Urban Pagan says:

sarah women do have a ‘time of the month’ for eating chocolate- its called ‘any day with a ‘y’ in it

and if you can’t afford to buy chocolate there is an alternative

          steal it

        • UP, I agree anyday with a “y.”

But, there really is actual evidence that many women will crave chocolate during a specific part of their reproductive cycle. I provides the same effect as endorphins and makes you feel better. However, there is also evidence that it increases PMS symptoms. When my husband and I were first married, we ran out of chocolate and I had to have some. I even thought of eating the chocolate chips out of a cake mix. For me it has to be chocolate, not cake, brownies, ice cream, but real chocolate. It was 11:30 pm and my adorable husband offered to pick up some. I declined. But, for the last twelve year our house is never without chocolate. Same as my desk when I was working.

The funny thing is that during other times of the month, I can eat a small piece and be satisfied, but not when that time comes. Now, I’m going to get a piece of chocolate to go with my coffee!
