GO! Know your time of death!

Posted on July 20th, 2008 by Jim

It is believed that 98% of people wouldn’t want to know their EXACT time of death.

We ask YOU would you want to know your exact time of death, assuming it was pre-determined? Maybe an opportunity to smell more flowers while you still can? Do tell, tick, tock, tick, tock….

  1. Some time ago I watched a special about a couple of sisters who had a mother who suffered from a very rare and debilitating disease called Fatal Familial Insomnia, essentially creating a brain wave pattern that interrupted sleep and causing death within a few months. The gene is inherited, and the adult sisters were offered the chance to know by a very intricate series of blood tests (paid for by the show) whether or not they would have the same demise.
Both girls eventually decided to have the test after several months of consideration, only because one of them became pregnant and she felt she had a responsibility to her unborn child to know. Later, the other sister also took the test. But before their ultimate decision one of them said, “We’re all going to die someday, why know how and when if you could? It would taint everything. There would be a sense of urgency every day. Just live the best you can, and always stop to smell the flowers.”

    Indeed.

Incidently, neither one of them had the gene for the disease, and the mother of the unborn child is going to let the child decide when he or she is an adult to test for the same.

  2. I like what was said about not knowing. I would not want to know. The anticipatory anxiety would ruin my “smelling the flowers.” Enjoying life and goal planning would be much different. At a certain point, it would become about waiting for that day. What just went through my head was the psychological excrusion that death row inmate go through when there time is up. But, then it might save on my budget or scare me because I don’t have enough money saved!!!

a cheery topic indeed…..if you knew, then it’s basic self preservation to avoid that set of circumstances happening so you alter the whole time line thingy.

WOuld you turn left instead of right if you knew? what if that set in motion a set of events that meant you never met your partner, never had your kids, never got to know of GSTF’s even….. would it all be really worth it to die a week. a month, a year later than you were originally?

I love my kids – I can’t think of a single day without them. By knowing the time and place of my own death and avoiding it but in doing so not having them, then i think (i know) i’d rather not know and have them – anyday!

  6. No I would not want to know but if someone spill it to me, I would really be scared and stay awake until I die so I can see more of the world and smell more flowers, see more flowers and touch more flowers..
