My friend sent me this the other day… and given the interesting posts of late, everything from UFO’s to tattoos to fashion travesties, the one thing all these topics show us is the diversity of opinions and cultures. The way one person sees life is not always the way another person sees it.
Sometimes we are shown this in the most unlikely places…
Perspective
One day, the father of a very wealthy family took his son on a trip to the country with the express purpose of showing him how poor people live.
They spent a couple of days and nights on the farm of what would be considered a very poor family.
On their return from their trip, the father asked his son, “How was the trip?”
“It was great, Dad.”
“Did you see how poor people live?” the father asked.
“Oh yeah,” said the son.
“So, tell me, what did you learn from the trip?” asked the father.
The son answered:
“I saw that we have one dog and they had four.
We have a pool that reaches to the middle of our garden and they have a creek that has no end.
We have imported lanterns in our garden and they have the stars at night.
Our patio reaches to the front yard and they have the whole horizon.
We have a small piece of land to live on and they have fields that go beyond our sight.
We have servants who serve us, but they serve others.
We buy our food, but they grow theirs.
We have walls around our property to protect us, they have friends to protect them.”
The boy’s father was speechless.
Then his son added, “Thanks Dad for showing me how poor we are.”
Life is all about how you see it, how do you measure success and wealth, the balance in you bank account or is it raising a family, sharing good times with friends or is just being content within yourself?
Success and wealth is all about what matters to you!

I have heard that story before and I will never get tired of it. I measure my worth mostly on how I treat others and if I have been helpful in anyway by being a part of someone’s life even for a brief moment. This includes how I treat my husband…how I show love, honor, appreciate, help him to grow, encourage, support him, value him and respect him. I feel that my life is worthy if I can show God’s love through me in this manner.

nice put.. clueless… sometimes that name is so not appropriate….
be true to yourself…
Yes, but I kind of like it and I have so many accounts with it. My blog does say that, at times, I was clueless.

It seems many times people try and separate these out. To me its more of an amalgam. Good friends, happy family and fiscal security so you don’t struggle or worry.
You can be happy without being financially secure but its more difficult. You can be happy without family but its not easy. Friends come and go but its always nice to be able to call on good friends. A bit of each and you are on top, throw in good health and you’re probably close to Utopia – I don’t see it as any one key item.
I agree financial security does make it easier… but it is not everything…
but not at the expense of the reason you are gaining it…
All to often people sacrifice family and friends to gain the finances that in the end they loose site of what they were after..
I do think unless you can be content and happy with what you have you will never content or happy when you get more….
but all things in balance as you said can only be Utopia.. but it is rarley achieved..
But heres hoping..
I tried thinking outside the square… once. And then I realized I was thinking inside a trapezoid.

You’ve captured the spirit of GO! Smell the flowers wonderfully well AC and thanks for that!
Thorns n flowers….
Success and wealth is relative and there will be wealthier and pooer people wherever we are. We’ve received the biggest smiles and warmest welcomes from the pooest communities on our travels who were overjoyed we spent time with them.
Striving for fulfillment (e.g dropping down on your bed at night like a shot soldier after a hard day of doing whatever rocks your boat) is what it’s about……which may not be linked to happiness in the traditional sense of the word.
The quest continues :0)
thanks guys…
sometimes the best gift you give and also receive is time.. time giving to someone and time giving to you.. it is an privildge that another person thought enough of you to offer it too… thats why they smile…
disagree
a mate of ours got a 7 stretch for a bit of contraband
when he writes to us I will ask him how grateful he was for his gift!
a mate of ours from here or there…
you do the crime you do the time…
but he wont forget it and may learn a lesson….
however depending on what the contraband was, he may be hard done by.. dont know so cant judge…
but just think of all the time he will have to sit and think about how he got to be in her majesty’s services so to speak and how lucky he is to contiplate not ever going there again…..
Well what happens to another that may be “seen” as a setback..can be the defining moment of another’s life…If you choose to see it that way.
When I got called down to the police station at the end of my using to discuss some “forged” checks that were a direct result of the lifestyle I was living in active addiction…..it brought me face to face with the person I had become…someone capable of inflicting harm into the lives of other un-invited.
I took full accountability and responsibility for the crimes I had been committing and with that I also took responsibility for myself…it was and is the defining moment of the decision i made to get clean, stay clean and learn to live life another way.
Change the way you see things and everything then changes as a result…….

lovely, hilarious happy clappy nonsense!!
did it end with
I saw that we have loads of food and they are starving
I saw that we have healthcare and they die younger
I saw that we have education and technology and they don’t
perspective possibly? but in reality would the child swap with the poor people? nope.
The funny thing is Pagan that many kids wouldnt swap there Ipod, PS3, Mobile phones or Blackberry thingies for the life, but it doesnt take all of them to see it .. it only takes one or two. I like it because it reminds me life is what you make it and what I see as mundain to others seem success…
My life to me is ordinary but to others I know it is an achievement… one day I might tell you why but then again I might not..
thanx.. reminds me life is what you make it and what I see as mundain to others seem success
I’ll add to that a little bit. There was a Guru in India called Osho who had a fleet of 99 Roll Royces and also all kinds of celebrities and billionairs as devotees. He used to roam around like superstar wearing diamonds on his outfit and giving sermons in all kinds of exotic locations.
During an interview a journalist asked him:
Why do you have all these Roll Royces ?
He answered: Its because of these Rolls Royces people come and see me and listen to me. If I just spoke about spirtuality, who would come? No one. Atleast this way they think that “ah he has Rolls Royces so he must know the secret of life” so they come and listen to my lectures, and a few stay and understand.
Next question
Some people accuse you of just being the Guru of the rich, why is that Hollywood stars are your devotees, but not poor people?
Answer: when people are poor, they thing that by getting money you can become happy, it is only after getting money that you realise that happiness is something different, and that is when they need me !
perspective……
a different view …. nice
**Applause**
Can we do the same with 99 flowers?
hahaha
translation
‘I am a scammer who nicks the wealthy and gulliblse money for my own gain and wrap it up as something spiritual. If his reasoning was true whyt did he setlle on 99 rolls royce??
he’s yet another scam artist.
I hope in a twist of irony a poor person steals one of his cars and runs him and some of his rich mates over.
Love it…love it..love it Aussie. I know that I have the capacity to get stuck in a perspective, because I have, in which I don’t see the bigger picture. For most of my life all I wanted was too be rich and I measured my health and well-being on what the outer circumstances of my life were.
Today I realize that all I have…the love..the laughter..the health…the family…the friends..all the wonderful aspects of my life could never be bought with money…..I am rich in ways that others will never have the opportunity to know and for this perspective I am so grateful!
