GO! Smell the show the family guy!

Posted on June 10th, 2008 by Jim

Hi from Toronto and a BIG thanks to our flower smelling pal Dave Ross for introducing us to the show the family guy. With us not having TV in our Dubai abode we’re far from being up with the ‘must-sees’ of TV and have opted for the box sets of the likes of 24, Prison break and House.

Here’s a family Guy clip that takes us back to last week when we were sat around the ‘camp’ fire in Calgary:

So has anyone else seen this show or is it just a Canadian thing?

What others are on your hit list to watch thesedays? Do tell!

If you’re in Canada you have to watch Trailer Park Boys. All seven seasons plus the movies. In one sitting!

  3. It airs in the USA, but I don’t care for it. Lately, the news and Law and Order: Special Victims Unit. I like the psychological nature of it and a few of the stars are nice eye candy. I also enjoy Good Eats on the Food Tv Network with Alton Brown.

Seen it? I love it! Its one of my top 3 favorite shows. I quote Peter, Stewie, and Brian randomly. A lot of people assume its completely juvenile humor, fart jokes, etc. but they make a lot of subtle intellectual references and they poke fun at the absurdities of society. I am not exaggerating when I say I watch 2 hours of Family Guy every day. Its on my local CW channel at 5 and 5:30 and then again on Cartoon Network at 9 and 9:30. And I’m not much of a tv person. If I do watch tv, its usually documentaries. In other words, I’m kinda picky about what I watch.

Family Guy, American Dad, and The Simpsons often deviate from the main story line to do “in-jokes”, social commentary, and various pop culture references. It’s not too hard to find out what’s popular in the USA as far as current TV goes. Are you asking for recommendations?

I try to watch everything new that interests me. Some of the top shows include CSI, NCIS, Desperate Housewives, Nip/Tuck, Law And Order, Heroes, Without A Trace, etc.

Many shows maintain a big following even though people may not be watching TV on their TV sets when the shows are actually airing. The internet and electronic devices like iPod and DVD have changed the viewing habits worldwide.

I really enjoy that I now have the option to see some vintage shows online (for free) in their entirety.

First comes House MD, then South Park and third place Family Guy…

    just a peek—

Olivia: You *are* the weakest link. Goodbye.

Stewie Griffin: Aha ha ha. Oh, gosh that’s funny. That’s really funny. Do you write your own material? Do you? Because that is so fresh. You are the weakest link goodbye. You know, I’ve never heard anyone make that joke before. Mmm. You’re the first. I’ve never heard anyone reference, reference that outside the program before. Because that’s what she says on the show right? Isn’t it? You are the weakest link goodbye. And yet, you have taken that and used it out of context, to insult me in this everyday situation. God what a clever, smart girl you must be, to come up with a joke like that all by yourself. Mmm, that’s so fresh too. Any titanic jokes you want to throw at me while we’re hitting these at the height of their popularity? Hmm? Cause… I’m here. God you’re SO funny.

I’m with April, that show is very funny! I got into it a lot about three or four years ago before I stopped watching TV.

“Family Guy”, to my way of thinking, caters to those blessed with a discriminating funny-bone, and a working knowledge of all things “pop”. You’ve got to be right up on your Entertainment game in order to catch the Flashbacks…most of which I believe to be of the non lsd variety. “Acidemia” aside, if you’ve got a high humour i.q., you’re going to love this show, non-stop, for about a year. The ensuing burn out period, ironically, will last about a year as well. You will then return to the show obediently, for reasons you may not be able to articulate.
If you like the songs in “Family Guy” look to the episode titled “Road to Rhode Island”. Great Boxcar number by the same name.
Many thanks should go out to Jim and Emma for stuffing flowers up my nose. Joy and laughter and complete civil disobedience abounded for days. I was certain that I had been transported into a Quentin Tarantino movie, and everybody but me was on crack…or perhaps it was the other way around. I’m not sure.
It’s been an intoxicating few days together and Kellie and I thank you both for taking us to a higher plain.
I’m spellbound by some of your comments, and we look forward to catching more of your deep thought, as translated to this provocative medium.
The one thing I don’t get however, is why Aussiecynic doesn’t like “Family Guy”. Assuming of course, that you are in fact Australian by birth, I thought that with the Australian, collective penchant for the surreal and ridiculous, you might embrace the lunacy. After my share of “Family Guy” withdrawal, I don’t push it on anyone. I will however, be happy to forward a “montage” of “Family Guy” moments, should you wish to give it another try.
    In absurdity,

So guys, whats it going to be ? A 42″ wall mounted LCD/Plasma,surround sound home cinema system, don’t forget to consider blu-ray! I haven’t seen the family guy but by reading the above it looks good. We’ve got the luxury of Sky +,it’s viewing system that allows you to watch and record live tv,ffwd, rewind, pause and can all be saved to a hardrive to watch whenever you like this is totally owned by my other half, this is what’s currently saved on the harddrive….Heroes – Sci Fi ,Dirty Sexy Money – modern day “Dallas” , Pushing Daisies – comedy and my favorite ” My name is Earl”,more of a movie person myself.

Family Guy airs in Belgium as well. Um, I’m not that huge of a fan. I prefer The Simpsons, Futurama and American Dad.

I watched one episode whilst on a plane a few months ago so not really in a position to be able to judge it.
The one I watched was about the world post nuclear war and to be honest was all a bit predictable and not overly funny, however I’m sure some of the other episodes would have more potential. If its animated then for me I guess I’ll stick with the old favourite ‘The Simpsons’. When I get back to the UK for Bo’s wedding I will be making a point of getting Series 5 of Shameless, now that is funny.

Right now I’m not watching any TV other than the Rugby at the weekends, there is too much to explore in Pattaya (and not just the obvious attractions before your brains run away with yourself).
