I like it. someone actually studying the complete economics of it for once.
What these muppets also don't tell you is that many proposed wind turbines in the UK were stopped by .......... yep you guessed it......environmentalists.
A plan for 60 turbines on a deserted Scottish island were blocked in case it killed a rare bird of prey (by flying into the turbine blades) of which there are only 20 pairs left in the wild. Of course there is no proof this would happen. Also;
1. It is unlikely to survive as there are so few inbreeding will probably finish them soon anyway.
2. Nobody lives there to see them and 99.9999% of people don't even know they exist.
3. Many other creatures will be made extinct instead of these birds if we believe the hype.
It seems going green, talking about it, having concerts about it are the new fashion, however actually doing something is far too inconvenient. I actually think a wind turbine looks nice - a great piece of engineering - and is quite relaxing to watch.

Instead of turning out lamps or whatever why can't we all be asked to donate say 1 pound each month to buy 'people's turbines'. If we did this every month then pretty soon we'd have plenty of turbines and these could be used exclusively to power schools, hospitals, public buildings and thus lower our taxation burden a little and reduce our carbon footprint enough to be able to still use cars and planes - things we patently won't give up.
However our 'green taxes' simply vanish into state coffers to pay for bullets and bombs to be dropped somewhere in the middle/far east in the name of spreading peace and democracy. We impose this democracy on states that we haven't even asked if democracy is what they want - how ironic is that?
Right I'm off to switch off my soap box and save us all loads of energy.

Despite the common place phrase, rocket science is not exactly difficult. It is simply Newtons third law.
Briefly - For each and every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.
So essentially rocket science is simply this - throw out gasses in one direction and the rocket will move in the other. Pretty easy.

The tricky part is rocket engineering. Getting all the systems to work together and enabling the reactions to proceed at the desired rate, at the desired time and in the desired direction wihtout blowing the whole thing up and still maintaining control.

Its a cute idea, but one which many will not take up...

heres an energy saving idea.... turn your electric off at the wall when you are not using it....
now theres a thought... go on over to the power point, flick the switch... thats it.. now your saving energy, and helping the planet.... the only thing is you will need to get up to turn it on..... but that can count as exercise.. so help your health too...

The sawdust and wood shavings from the local high school goes into my hen house, after a few days I clean it out and put it all into the composting garden for next season,
the newspapers from my neighbour, also goes into the garden
kitchen scraps except meat goes to the chickens,
meat scraps to the dogs

if we get cold we put on a jumper, not the heater,
if its hot we open the window no turn on the Air con
the only thing left on is the fridge, the clock radio, and the jug... everything else off at the power point... my electricity bill is $12-$15
per week, and this is peak time and on the more expensive winter rates......

its not rocket science its just common sense..... but that isnt that common these days..... ;)

There are a lot of dumb recycling ideas around :-)

I am not even convinced that the low energy bulbs are any good as in my experience they give out lot less light - saving the world is not about depriving yourself of hte basic necessities, but foregoing some of our "luxuries" and "excesses".

i DO A fair bit of upcycling

only yesterday I upcycled 15 puppies into the boot of a car.

they all died but I like to think by making a use of the space I was doing my bit.

explaining it to the ill kids who owned the dogs was not so easy

I'm focusing hard on a crystal in front of me and the word 'Gimmick' is popping into my head, whooooo freaky eh?
I thought we were suppsoed to be using them other lightbulbs that Al Gore built a new career out of - I wouldn't advise doing this to those ones though due to the mercury contained in flourescent lighting.

Given most people don't even recycle at all I'd say we should be focusing on real ideas to help. Oh and this doesn't save energy. The bulb is already made.
