You have seen Avatar, right?

Posted on January 24th, 2010 by Jim

Hands up – I was inspired although recent reports reckon that film goers have left Avatar feeling depressed as they get back to their 3D life here on earth:

  1. Hi Jim!!

It is so great to see a post from you and just your presence here. I have not seen Avatar, but it seems like a film that I would enjoy and plan to see…SciFi fan!!

I’d heard of the Avatar blues – people returning to reality after the utopia of Pandora (the fictional planet in Avatar).

Personally, found Avatar depressing for completely different reasons: cliched dialogue, cheesey music, a storyline straight out of a 10yr old’s fantasy & with a message as subtle as a kick in the klackers. The 3D technology was impressive, but can’t hang an entire film purely on technology (even the lame 3D films at Alton Towers understood that 15mins was tops based on technology alone).

Yup – a report here in Dubai papers said lots felt v depressed after watching it – your the first I know to slate avatar…maybe by homer simpson / fsamily guy dad reaction to the 3D distracted me from the ‘reality’ of the film – maybe I’ll watch on 2d back at home?

  3. Not seen it but my husband took our son to see it and they both loved it – and my husband rarely likes any film that contains cg at all!

He did say he thought it was a good parody of our own exploitative world situation.

I will have to see it I guess.
Nice to see ya here Jim!!

Agree with ODB, less substance than ablutions the morning after a curry and ten pints of guiness, although both are tremendously shite.
Surprised to see ol’fisherman pants posting about such a commercial subject though.

    Hey Howdy Hey!

Sorry – I’ve been completely absent – more on that in a future post.

For now, as one who has seen Avatar (only once), whilst it was an enjoyable 3 hours with the family, I would say that i found it all a bit too ‘tribal/spiritual’ in parts.

The first hint of a yawn.

Oh and on the subject of biggest film ever – I think if you check, then we should really be talking about ticket sales versus ever rising cost of a ticket making the ‘gross’ the record.

Correct me if i’m wrong but Star Wars has still out-performed avatar in ticket sales by a long way.

That’s my little grumble over – back to the work…..
