Cheers from Boston!

Posted on September 26th, 2009 by Jim

My whistle stop tour of New York has led me to Boston for a couple of days and aswell as visting the impressive Harvard campus (I can now say ‘I went to Harvard’) I couldn’t resist dropping into the Cheers bar which was formerly known as the Bull & Finch pub:

I never got to meet Cliff but was equally excited to visit both places as both have their place in putting Boston on the map. My favourite haunt was the Union Oyster house – the country’s oldest restaurant in continuous service lures touristy crowds with its fresh seafood and award-winning chowder as I devoured a dozen oyster – lots of zinc, right?

The Yankees beat the Red Socks last night - so my visit was well timed with the UN meeting practically grinding New York to a halt. I’ve also been requested to send the GO! Smell the flowers manuscript in to a local publisher, potentially interested in the flower-smelling book!
It’s been a great tour to date with the finest of post-summer / pre fall weather as it’s time to head back to the big apple to watch the Broadway show – Jersey boys and with only a day left I ask you – what would you do with 24 hours left in New York?

Do tell, Greyline tours are optional!

  1. Glad your enjoying your trip to the Big Apple Jim, If you get a chance head down to the South Street Seaport and take a look at the “Bodies” Exhibit….Battery Park City is also a nice visit along the water…

OH OH OH! In New York, you should go to the Statue of Liberty of course! Take a sail by her. I think there is an evening cruise.

Ellis Island? – I dunno Jim but I think I’d want to get out into the countryside away from the city noise and those endless tower blocks.

As exciting as it must be, I think I’d be overcome with a sense of desperation.

Funnily enough managed the cricel line boat trip which was 70% looking back at Manhattan, past Ellie Island and then 30% woodland and green up North….a real eye opener!

  4. For me, I would love to take in a nice dinner and a Broadway show…that would be my ideal day. Even lunch and a midday performance. Have a good time whatever you do.
