Hi from Chester, England coffee people.
My daughter and I have just been sitting down to a dinner I cooked (jacket spuds filled with cheese-yum!?).
After eating one half she turned round and announced “Cor, that was lovely, thanks.” Then realised there was another half waiting on the plate. I asked whether the second half was being consumed due to hunger or purely because it was tasty. “Both” she replied.

The biochemical mechanisms that transmit messages from the stomach to the brain (leptin) telling us that we are full cannot be stopped but they can be ignored, meaning we can continue to eat even though we are full.
Are you full up or do you sometimes continue eating because you like the taste?

Welcome ethical eater & happy first post!
To be truly replete and stuffed full of food is over rated anyway but where od we draw the line?
The pic you posted reminds me of the xmas day feast that few avoid in the western world….
I presume then that appetite supressants make the leptin convinced that we are indeed full??
There are times when I seriously overeat….more or less because of the taste…but who wants to overeat anything that doesn’t taste gooooooood

A good friend of mine keeps reminding me that ‘moderation’ is the key to most things in life… but when something is soooo good, you just gotta indulge. and then return to moderation?

Welcome ethical eater. Great post. Hmmm…sometimes, I eat because of the taste. However, I don’t like the feeling of being full at all…I have an eating disorder and feeling full feels uncomfortable to me. Welcome aboard…do you drink coffee?

Hi CC
thanks for the thumbs up, it’s appreciated.
Because of your disorder, do you eat little and often then, avoiding the feelings of fullness?
For me eating is a two pronged fork. On one hand I eat for pleasure and on the other I eat to refuel. Combining the two as often as possible.
I do drink coffee. I’ve only recently started, douwe egberts medium roast, no milk, just half a tsp of demerara sugar and only in the morning. How about you CC?

You are welcome!!
When my eating disorder is out of control, I eat as little to nothing as possible with the exception of COFFEE and water. I try to avoid the feeling of fullness when ever possible. I do eat for pleasure and am becoming a snob. LOL!!
Coffee black unless it is really bad coffee, then lots of half and half. I also like non-fat lattes cold or hot…Off to get some coffee now.

Great to be on board Jim.
A whopping Christmas dinner with the usual occasion of gluttony on the day is a classic example of when we generally eat far too much and conciously overide messsages when satiated.
There are a plethora of drugs that can suppress appetite and cause frank anorexia. The main central nervous system (CNS) stimulants being amphetamine based (Adderall, Dexedrine), however, because of the potential for abuse amphetamines for appetite suppression is not recommended. Also a major side-effect of stimulant drugs is hypertension and therefore contraindicated for those who have had seizures or cardiac disease. Because hypertension is common amongst obese persons, this limits the use of stimulants within this group.
Leptin is produced predominantly by adipose tissue (fat cells), providing negative feedback when enough fuel has been consumed to equalise energy balance. Appetite is regulated by a complex combination of the gastrointestinal tract, hormones, central and autonomic nervous systems. Drugs stimulate the hypothalamus portion of the brain to release noradrenalin from the adrenal glands which signals the fight or flight response, thus reducing hunger.
It is a highly complex and well debated subject but it is commonly believed we are programmed to deal with times of starvation rather than times of abundance.

Ta for the Xtra info and the sources of your finding…
I thought Leptin was French for rabbit*
*Considered a delicacy in some countries
**That’ll be Lapin.
Leptin is the new root of all evil in America.
pray tell Kathleen, what’s occuring?
Is it being sold as a weight-loss product?
Maybe part of a fat burning craze?
Agreed Kathleen.
