Hey – Howdy – Hey!
I came across this great photograph the other day – quite breath-taking and a sight that tourists flock to apparently.
At first I thought WOW too. Then I looked again and thought what a great image. Not all of us get to travel, some of my old friends down in Hertfordshire have only moved 3 or 4 miles from where they grew up, some still live in the same village.
It may not be the prettiest picture – it doesn’t have to be does it? It doesn’t have to win awards either but where it scores (in my mind) is that it’s such a bizarre circumstance that if it weren’t for a photograph, most of us would have never got to see it.
Photography allows the world to share so much – from the depths of the oceans to the far reaches of space. But it doesn’t have to be ‘inspiring’ to be great. Your own photography may not be technically brilliant, it may lack the subject matter of the paparazzi but what makes your photograph great is that it was taken by you. It records a place, a time or an event in a lifetime that you can never physically go back to. It could be a view of the countryside or the most personal photo – it doesn’t matter.
What matters is you took it and one day you may share it with someone else.
