Validation ~ In psychology and human communication, validation is the reciprocated communication of respect which communicates that the other’s opinions are acknowledged, respected, heard, and (regardless whether or not the listener actually agrees with the content), they are being treated with genuine respect as a legitimate expression of their feelings, rather than marginalized or dismissed.
We all need to receive and expresss validation and affirmations. It does help everyone to feel good and SMILE!!!
Please take the time to watch this video that was brought to my attention by John of Storied Mind. Go take a look about his poignant, thought provoking, and from the heart blog about depression. Please watch the whole video even though the beginning is a bit long…the ending is worth the wait.
“Validation” is a fable about the magic of free parking. Starring TJ Thyne & Vicki Davis. Writer/Director/Composer – Kurt Kuenne
While I was in the hospital, it was pointed out that I can go days, weeks or even months without smiling. When was the last time you smiled?
How do you feel when you receive a validation, affirmation or compliment from someone?
How do you feel when you express the same to someone else?

Hi CC! I smile often. I like compliments sure, but honestly…I don’t think I need a lot of validation anymore, like when I was younger.

Kathleen
I’m glad that you smile often. And, it is good that your validation comes mostly from the inside and less from the outside. We also have to remember to give it which I have a hunch that it comes naturally to you.

Hi CC
I’ll get round to watching the video later but in answer to your question ‘when was the last time I smiled?’ – guess i’m lucky enough to be smiling most of the time.
You know the most bizarre thing? – Aside from a few funny looks, most people smile back.
Now didn’t that feel better?

Day was fine and dandy….loads done and watched your vid – hit me at the end and yes, well worth it!
Cheers…..
Hi CC,
I really do smile a lot to be fair! And I get asked a lot what I’m smiling about and I’m not sure what I am smiling about which I think is a slight worry.
But then other times I can be a right miserable be-atch.
And I, like Kathleen, look for affirmation increasingly less.
Lib,
Do you also give affirmation?
My mother had this plaque with a saying which said something like, “Smile, you make people wonder what you are thinking about.” Smiles like yawns are contagious.
