Smell the coffee: Get out more!

Posted on July 8th, 2009 by Jim

What was the last concert you went to? They really help put things into perpsective.

It’s been ages and I’m looking forward to seeing Keane play at the wonderful Madinet . Afterall, everybody is changing:

The last concert I went to see was Jose Gonzalez, who despite his Spanish name is Swedish and a whizzbang with the guitar.

For those of you who don’t know him, you’ll recognise one of his hits as it was the backing track to the Sony Bravia advert some time ago.

Great guy, thoughtful, humble and talented. Reminds me a little of myself :oO

Looked good – ta for sharing – no group hugs though?

      • Fertile Fish says:

Not jealous about seeing Keane, they are just Coldplay ‘Lite’ with pianos.

And Coldplay, nothing more than Radiohead ‘Lite’.

        Musical influence family trees hey?

Best band in the world today?

        RADIOHEAD!

        • Lib says:

You should get yourself to Leeds/Reading this year, FF. Radiohead are headlining.

They went a bit too freaky after The Bends for me.

Perhaps they actually did have the bends…

  2. Svasti says:

Last gig was not too long ago actually, in May. I went to see my all-time favourite musician and my only celebrity crush, Jeff Martin. And I GOT TO MEET HIM!!

I wrote about it in my post: Svasti the fan girl

It was one of the very best nights of my life!! :) .-= Svasti´s last blog ..Tiggers like to bounce =-.

    • Jim says:

Was Jeff Martin all he was cracked up to be in the flesh then?

      • Svasti says:

OMG, was he! He’s the only famous person I have a serious school girl crush on. Wait, he’s the only man alive I have a serious school girl crush on.

Objectively [ahem], I can also say he’s a very talented musician, songwriter and singer. He has an amazing stage presence too. And gawd, but he’s HOT!! ;)

I actually saw Tea Party many times before they broke up, then saw most of his solo shows before he formed his new band. The night of the gig I mentioned was his very first one with his brand new band.

        Haha, can I gush much?

BTW, if you check out my Facebook profile picture, that’s me and him on the night. Clearly, I was glowing!! :D .-= Svasti´s last blog ..Tiggers like to bounce =-.

    IMPORTANT: ALL VISITORS PLEASE NOTE

In order to gain complete control of GoSmellTheFlowers, Jim Wheat “took away” the equity of his partners Emma Wheat and Myself. He then locked us out of GoSmellTheFlowers, copied all the content to this site GoSmellTheCoffee; and inorder to win sympathy of all contributors cooked up a story of how “his” site had been stolen.

While we are no longer pursuing http://www.GoSmellTheFlowers.com, I would like to share with you how we have been treated and hope you do indeed Smell The Coffee before contributing to this site.

Good luck with your project, and if you ever need the domain, let me know. I’ll keep it alive infinetly on my servers, but am happy to sell it to the highest bidder.

AND THE EQUITY EMAIL TO EMMA AS AGREED BY REHAN AS A FAIR WAY OF HOLDING ONTO EQUITY / OR LOSING IT DEPENDING ON EFFORT:

      Jim Wheat to Emma, Rehan
      show details May 6 Reply

      Dear Em,

      Thanks for your recent reply.

I’ve discussed with Rehan and we have agreed on the following offer, he is cc’d in on this business based email.

GSTF will either become a business or will die out – if it survives it will be a brand that rewards effort.

With Mike & A/C going there a great opportunity to bring on female UAE based writers, for example, a life coaching
section, travel, food and writing that makes people stop and think as more and more people join GSTF. I’m aware you’ve
collected new life coaching cards recently from the designers – why not a set of GSTF cards as well if you’re still keen to
be involved, pushing on a daily basis?

I can take most of this on board as I have done from day 1 but will need support, therefore:

90% shareholders propose the following to you to either accept and give input or decline and walk away:

You have 10% equity to either keep through measurable effort or to lose – it’s entirely in your hands.

Likewise if I stop I lose equity, as does Rehan with technical – same for any other investors or people who deserve equity based
      on exceptional merit or talent.

The bottom line is you have 2% per month to lose or gain depending on what you do month on month.

This will be offered to other active contributors or put back into the pool distributed 60% Jim, 30% Rehan.

To buy you out of something worth zero is free and shows that you’d be prepared to let go.

Your call – if no action with what you bring to the table then you’ll hold on July 1st:

10% if you commit to a minimum level that we all agree – this must come from you as it’s evident

you aren’t prepared to be given direction, minimum post levels, bringing others on board etc – I’m tired of
      asking.

What are you prepared to put into GSTF online?

If nothing then you will lose 2% if your input continues as a drop in, post once a week, comment 3 times per week -
this cannot merit GSTF online equity.

12 % if you do more than we agree as a minimum to maintian your equity with KPI’s that you suggest.

So 8% on July 1st – if no measurable effort is laid out and converted from you – on it goes reviewed very month so if it

stays as it then in November you own 0% of GSTF online community.

This isn’t a threat – it’s a fact that you have equity to either hold, lose or grow and it’s your call.

The book rights remain 50% ours jointly, as was always the case.

      Conclusion

Over to you – if you’re not prepared to bring anything to the table then so be it, 2% will be re-distributed from July 1st.

This is a business and I’m prepared to continue to be obsessed about and want to be fair about future equity.

I can’t take the content and writers myself and am willing to give equity to new comers who put the effort in.

Please, over to you – it’s your call.

Let us know at your earliest what you propose to bring to the GSTF table moving forward.

      Cheers,

      Jim & Rehan

SO I’M NO IN A POSITION TO OFFER CONTRIBUTING COFFEE SMELLERS EQUITY BASED CONTRIBUTIONS IF THEY CHOSE TO TAKE IT AND ALREADY HAVE THEM ON BOARD WITH MORE TO FOLLOW!

Thirdly, it bad PR for his online company (that’s Flora2000 all you passing readers) for the owner to behave in such a puerile manner.

Fourthly, and this is the best bit, we get to take the p1$$ out of him whenever we feel so inclined!

    Keane’s playing at Madinet?

After Roy Keane left Nottingm Forest I knew he’d gone down hill (snapping Alfe Inge Haaland’s leg as a ManU thug a former low point) but didn’t realise he was so desperate he was now plying his trade with Madinet FC – are they even in the UAE Prem League.

Shocking to see the once mighty fall so low.

  7. O'DB says:

Last concert i saw was Kraftwerk at the Manchester Velodrome, the opening night (Thurs July 2nd) of the 2009 Manchester International Festival.

Was ace. During ‘Tour de France’ 4 of the gold winning GB cycling team weaved in & out of each other on the track.

2nd half had 3-D visuals. Pills & musical notes all spiralling out towards you from the stage. Seeing music – think I might be synaesthetic.

    • Fertile Fish says:

      Jealous!

band I wish I had seen: DEVO.

      • O'DB says:

I’ve been walking round with a sh*t-eating grin ever since.

Bands I wish I’d seen. Whole different ball game: The Jam, The Stone Roses

        • Gareth in Thailand says:

shakin stevens, dollar, flock of seagulls, Joe Dolce, Dennis Rusos, Nana Miscouri come on O’DB get the real list up.

  8. I absolutly love music and have told my husband that I need to go to at least four concerts or live musicals to be content. Due to panic attacks, we went to James Taylor’s concert, but had to leave before it started.

Carole King’s Living Room Tour was the last I’ve been to and it was so uplifting and enjoyable. What talent!!!

The next one is the musical “Avenue Q.” It is a very grown up version of “Sesame Street”

Keane were great last night – recognised more tunes I’d remembered including this one which they dedicated to Dubai as we all crave simple things:

    httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qVOa4-JwdV8&feature=related

Great job Keane but please wear a black shirt next time!

  10. Lib says:

Didn’t the lead singer of Keane have to sort himself out after developing a coke habit whilst downing shed loads of port? Fair play!

Last concert for me was Oasis, next one for me is the Editors, possibly Fleetwood Mac before that.

    Quite random I suppose.

  11. It really is actually a fantastic and also valuable part of information and facts. We are delighted for you to discussed this useful details along with us. Remember to continue to be us all up to date such as this. Appreciate your expressing backing tracks.
